Uncle Padak is a Korean restaurant that mainly serves Korean fried chicken and beer, because they believe that fried chicken and beer is the best combination. One of the dishes I ordered was the rice balls with fish roe. Roe is is the fully ripe internal egg masses in the ovaries, or the released external egg masses of fish and certain marine animals. Roe is mostly seen in sushi, which are the tiny orange colored eggs on top of sushis. In Korean, the rice balls are called 'Samgak Joomukbap', which is sort of like the Japanese onigiri. Both of them are made from white rice formed into triangular or circular shapes and often wrapped in seaweed. Korean fried chicken has become a more popular dish/snack over the past few years. It is consumed as a meal, a fast food at bars, or as an after meal snack in Korea. Gimbap or Kimbap, is the Korean version of sushi, and the difference between Gimbaps and sushis is that gimbaps usually have more unique fillings compared to sushi and their seafood fillings. |
